Inspirational Leadership - Misunderstood

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of what it is to be an inspiration to others. It is this word “others” that is the problem. By focussing on how to behave, what to do and what to say to others, is to misunderstand what other people find inspiring. People don’t look to you to inspire them, they look to you to be an inspiration.

In other words, it is how you are being that counts.

Maybe asking yourself these questions (regularly) will help. Let me know.

  • Is my life working out according to plan?
  • Do I have a plan, a vision of what I really want?
  • Am I fully engaged with my work and career or do I count the hours?
  • I am fully engaged when I am with other people or am I distant and disconnected?
  • Do I have a fullness of relationship with my family and loved ones or am I missing something?
  • Am I making a difference in things that matter?
  • Do I feel quietly confident in myself about what I have become — or have I formed a low opinion of myself?
  • Do I have a sense of purpose in my life — what is the point of me?
  • Who or what am I here to serve?
  • Am I quietly philosophical about life’s disappointments, delays and disasters or am I regularly knocked off track?
  • Am I emotionally well balanced or do things regularly get under my skin?
  • Do I feel that I have a great deal of choice about what I think, feel and do — or am I trapped in a disappointing life?
  • If life generally good and challenging or difficult and overwhelming?
  • Am I happy?
  • Am I fulfilled?
  • Where am I?
  • Where do I want to be?
  • How will I get there?
  • Am I being who I really am?

These questions — if asked often enough and acted upon — will change how you are in the world, and change the energy that you transmit. This could be very inspiring.
